Sea salt is often promoted as a healthful alternative
to regular table salt, but the sodium (SALT) content is actually about the
same. Sea salt has only very small amounts of some
minerals. If you are looking for a low-sodium option,
consider salt-free seasonings and herb blends
instead. Be sure to read the labels, since some herb
mixtures are not salt-free.
To make sure a product is salt-free, check the
ingredients and the sodium content in a serving.
Some products are called "lite." This means it has
about half the salt as normal table salt. A registered
dietitian will be able to best help you determine how
much sodium you should consume each day.
